Uma is a given name in various cultures. In Surinamese Uma means 'Woman', in Hindoe it means 'the Power of Light' In Sanskrit it can further mean "Mother". In Hebrew and Aramaic its meaning is "Nation".

All these meanings represent the Uma Series as different aspects come to the light through the experiences these women embody.
