This video lesson builds upon the concept of conditional probability we established in the previous video lesson (   • Presentation 8: Conditional Probability  ). We'll now develop both the definition of independent events and intuition about what they represent. We'll also derive the law of total probability and apply it to our ongoing example of modeling vegetation dynamics in desert plant communities with markov chains.
