Traquair House - Scotland's Oldest Inhabited House in the Scottish Borders of Scotland

Recently I re-visited Traquair House, which is located close to Innerleithen in the lovely Scottish Borders. We had a wonderful time and I thoroughly recommend visiting. It's brilliant for children and there's so much to learn & admire in the house and around the beautiful gardens.

Over the years I've visited hundreds of visitor attractions all across the length & breadth of Scotland, and I can honestly say, I think this is easily in my Top 3 places to visit in Scotland. Inhabited for over 900 years, the history, artefacts and objects carefully curated & looked after in this beautiful house are outstanding. To actually see one of Mary, Queen of Scots shoes and purses was an amazing moment for me.

We really enjoyed having tea in the tearoom and the maze was brilliant fun! The grounds are beautiful and if you're a beer lover you'll really enjoy finding all about the micro brewery - don't forget to buy a few bottles!

One of the things that impressed us most was the incredible friendliness & openness of all the staff and volunteers, who really went out of their way to welcome us and explain the history of the house. I've been to many attractions this year that would learn a lot from the way this amazing visitor attraction is run & organised. If you can, please visit & support this wonderful family home :-)
