Abbotsford House - The Home of Sir Walter Scott, Romantic Novelist, Scottish Borders, Melrose, Scotland. A couple of weeks ago we visited the amazing Abbotsford House, home to Sir Walter Scott, one of Scotlands greatest romantic novelists, who became a huge celebrity writer in his lifetime.

Abbotsford is located close to Galashiels and Melrose in the Scottish Borders and is just over an hours drive away from Edinburgh. There's a superb, modern visitor centre with an excellent restaurant 'Ochiltrees' which we highly recommend. The gift shop is very high quality and don't forget to look around the exhibition, which really helps to bring this amazing man's life alive.

There are also wonderful river walks along the River Tweed, which flows in the grounds near to the house. If you've got time, I can also thoroughly recommend having a look around Melrose too, which is really lovely.
