Neuss is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located on the west bank of the Rhine opposite Düsseldorf. Neuss is the largest city within the Rhein-Kreis Neuss district. It is primarily known for its historic Roman sites, as well as the annual Neusser Bürger-Schützenfest. Neuss and Trier share the title of "Germany's oldest city"; and in 1984 Neuss celebrated the 2000th anniversary of its founding in 16 BCE.

What to see in one day in Neuss?

•St. Marien is the largest Roman Catholic parish in Neuss. The church is located south of Neuss main train station on Marienkirchplatz. The parish includes the two branch churches of St. Kamillus and St. Barbara.

•Neuss city center is the central district of the district town of Neuss. 11,963 residents live here on an area of 1.49 km² (as of December 31, 2021).

•The Obertor (facing the Upper Rhine) is the last surviving medieval city gate in Neuss, which dates back to the 13th century and controlled the important trade route to the episcopal city of Cologne in the south of the Neuss city fortifications. It is located in close proximity to Oberstrasse.

•The Quirinus-Münster also called Münster-Basilika of St. Quirinus of Neuss is a Catholic basilica that was erected in the city of Neuss in the western part of the present state of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany between 1209 and 1230. The basilica is one of the best examples of Romanesque churches in Germany. It has a strong Lombard influence but in principle shows the first signs of Gothic. In its bell tower the first semicircular arches appear. This form of arch becomes centuries later in one of the marks that marked the Gothic style.

•The Neuss City Library is the public library of the city of Neuss. In 2019 it recorded around 260,000 visitors, over 300 events held and an inventory of around 120,000 physical media units. Its beginnings go back to 1907.

•The Rheinisches Landestheater (RLT) is the largest traveling theater in North Rhine-Westphalia.

•The Neuss Rathaus is the town hall located in the city of Neuss, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is a historic building that houses the municipal administration of Neuss. The Rathaus is an example of Gothic architecture completed in 1571 and has undergone several changes over the centuries. It is one of the city's main tourist attractions and a testament to its historical heritage.
