A unique cab ride on the sprinter service from Amsterdam Central Station to Zandvoort aan Zee and back to Haarlem over the left track. As you can see summer has started in Holland. All is going as planned during our journey to our final destination.

This video was taken on the 5th of May. Liberation Day in The Netherlands. Becuase of this day there were many festivals in Haarlem. For this extra trains were running between Haarlem and some other stations causing a change of platform plans at that station.

On our way to Haarlem you won't see much of that. Accept for the fact the sprinter new generation is waiting at platform 6b for its departure to Leiden as extra sprinter service.

But as soon as we reach our stop in Zandvoort and change direction you'll see a lot of change! As soon as we leave the station we will stay on the left track. A very unique way of running to Haarlem.

The reason for this is that the train dispatcher needs to produce some extra train movements in Haarlem and we will arrive at platform 6b for change. Running over the left tracks means our last signal is the one just after Zandvoort. From that moment in our next signal can be found in Overveen. Driving like this means there can be only one train allowed at that same time on the left track. The signal in Overveen is just a warming for the next one, because the signal in Overveen can't show a red light. Dus yellow when the signal just before Haarlem is still red (like it did in this case).
