Valorizziamo i tesori dell'Università di Ferrara - Catalogare un libro antico

Chiunque, in qualsiasi momento e in qualunque luogo attraverso il catalogo online può sapere dell'esistenza di un libro e della biblioteca in cui è conservato, talvolta perfino visualizzando immagini di esso. Se poi sono descritte anche le particolarità del singolo esemplare, conoscerà quel libro anche come oggetto, con una propria storia testimoniata da legatura, note manoscritte, ex-libris dei precedenti possessori, ... Il video mostra un catalogatore professionista alle prese con una cinquecentina del fondo Giuridico di Unife, della quale, grazie alle sue competenze, studia e descrive gli elementi specifici (frontespizio, segnature, dati d'esemplare, ...) a vantaggio di chi consulterà il catalogo o realmente sfoglierà il libro. Ma chi consulta i libri antichi, spesso vere e proprie opere d'arte? Non solo studiosi e docenti universitari - per attività didattiche, di ricerca o divulgative rivolte a pubblici non accademici - ma anche qualsiasi cittadino: i bibliotecari Unife, infatti, promuovono con decisione la consultazione dei libri antichi, sempre con occhio attento anche alla loro tutela.

Thanks to the online catalogue, anyone, at any time and anywhere can know that a certain rare book exists and is held by a specific library, sometimes even enjoying images of it. Furthermore, if copy-specific data are included, the catalogue describes the book also as an object carrying its own story, that peculiarities like the bookbinding or the former owners' handwritten notes and bookplates attest. This video shows a professional cataloguer dealing with a 16th-century book from the Unife’s Law special collection: she is studying and describing its parts (title page, signatures, copy-specific data, etc.) for the benefit of people who will search the catalogue or properly turn the book's pages. But who are the readers of rare books, sometimes fascinating works of art? Not only scholars and academic staff - for teaching, research or activities for non-academic audiences - but also any citizen: the Unife librarians strongly encourage rare book consulting, always paying attention to preservation as well.
