AC-DC Variac Checkout

Just a quick video highlighting a cool tool for just about anyones home workshop. On this particular item I can take no credit for the concept, design or build. It is one of the many creations of an old friend who lost his battle with kidney failure last year. Through the kindness and generosity of his son and daughter this and numerous other electrical items were given to me during the process of helping them deal with what was an overwhelming quantity of personal belongings. I was able to help them distribute several truck and trailer loads of usable household goods, furniture and supplies to entities around town that help others less than fortunate than ourselves.

What this is is a functional device for varying the voltage to an electrical device and make that device variable when it isn't designed as such. The limitation to the variac is the amperage rating of the variac itself. This is a small one, more than likely 3 to 5 amp in output, but that is a guess as I have not yet opened it to find out. The cool thing however, about this particular one is the internal rectification circuit that allows changing the output from alternating current to direct current with the flip of a switch. The DC output can and will be very beneficial in troubleshooting a ton of items in the shop as well as a variable DC power supply.

As always this is not a 'how to' video...its just a 'how I found it to be' video and in no way is this intended to encourage you to play with electricity, a/c OR d/c if you are not totally comfortable in working with it !!
