The design of these shipping container homes is made by the Dutch company Glamtainer in co-operation with the Australian company GlamXperience® and consist out of a 20 foot high-cube shipping container, which is modified into a high luxury hotel room of 26m2.

Move over glamping, the latest glamorous trend in holidaying is the “Glamtainer” — and it’s much more comfortable than any type of camping.

This is a 7m “luxury cabin” complete with an indoor fireplace, double-glazed windows, a queen size bed, a kitchen and bathroom, outdoor bathtub and deck.

The best part is that it’s easily transportable on a standard flat-bed truck, with NRMA shipping two of these renovated containers to its Ocean Beach Holiday Resort over the summer holidays before taking them to Jindabyne Holiday Park for the winter ski season.

It’s the first of its kind in Australia, said NRMA spokesman Paul Morton.

“Think of it like the hip hotels of camping for couples or families,” he said.

The “Glamtainer” is connected to the tiny house trend, as more people are choosing to downsize the space they live in, simplify, and live with less.

Caroline Orchard and partner Ryan Behn are embracing the freedom that accompanies the tiny house lifestyle.

“The Glamtainer is a convenient option for travellers who love exploring the great outdoors, while enjoying all the creature comforts, class and style of a home,” Ms Orchard said.
The Glamtainer Skylounge is designed from scratch and has an official CSC Safety Approval. This means these shipping container homes can be shipped all over the world, at any time.

This fact distinguishes us, from all the other competitors who are using standard shipping containers for their refitting. Their shipping container homes can’t be transported as official shipping containers because their structural integrity is no longer guaranteed. Glamtainer is using a different approach and puts strength, safety and flexibility first.
