Analysis of Tai Chi Stance: Solving the Problem of Lack of Internal Strength and Half-hearted Internal Power in Tai Chi Practice .

Internal martial arts such as Tai Chi, Xingyi, Bagua, and others incorporate stance to cultivate and refine internal strength. This practice encompasses various styles such as Tai Chi, Xingyi, Bagua, Da Cheng Quan, and Yi Quan, synthesizing the essence of external movements into stance . This underscores the importance of stance in cultivating internal power.
In Tai Chi stance, one progresses from relaxing the outer muscles to establishing the fundamental "whole-body power" through body alignment. Subsequently, one delves into training the inner layer of "whole-body power" and refines the skill of "qi sinking into the bones," thus gradually enhancing internal power and qi cultivation in Tai Chi practice.
Standing meditation (stance) in Tai Chi, based on the foundation of "relaxation leading to power accumulation," encompasses several key points. Firstly, it involves deepening the understanding of Tai Chi principles such as "seemingly tight yet loose" and practicing the appropriate relaxation in different areas to avoid merely superficial relaxation without underlying power. Secondly, it focuses on relaxing body posture and internal spaces discerningly, enabling the connection of power throughout the body and limbs. Lastly, it involves consolidating internal qi energy within the body, replacing clumsy external movements with the refined internal power that is integrated within the body's movements.
Drawing from over twenty years of teaching Tai Chi and Xingyi standing meditation(stance), the key practice points and sequence have been summarized based on students' challenges and bottlenecks encountered during practice. Firstly, mastering the basic structures of standing meditation, emphasizing the use of "relaxed" ward-off energy ("peng jin") to accumulate internal power in Tai Chi. Secondly, learning to relax the internal body, transcending the mere appearance of movements lacking power. Thirdly, engaging in body-mind training to sense and cultivate internal power within the fixed postures of internal martial arts.
With a thorough understanding and practice of Tai Chi standing meditation(stance), practitioners can naturally overcome the issue of lacking internal power in Tai Chi practice and avoid the reliance on clumsy force and incomplete internal power. This leads to continuous strengthening of the foundation of internal power in Tai Chi and effectively promotes health benefits through exercise.
