Many ball sport athletes suffer from a sprained, dislocated, fracture or jammed thumb. In this video we look at some treatment and preventative techniques to reduce your injury risk.

In this video we demonstrate a number of strengthening exercises to improve the stability of the thumb. Often this combined with a thumb taping or wrap is the best way to prevent further injury.

In a previous video we provide a HOW TO demonstration on performing a self taping technique for your thumb. This is an ideal technique for those returning to contact or ball sports.

Sports which utilise this particular strapping technique include volleyball, basketball, Australian rules football and soccer goalkeepers.

Some common thumb injuries could include thumb dislocation, thumb fracture and ligament damage of the thumb.

Obviously there are no exercises guaranteed to prevent injury but these help to strengthen the muscles around the thumb improving the muscular stability of it hopefully taking away the reliance on ligaments.
