Bill Nighy stars in Jeremy Front's BBC radio dramatisation of Simon Brett’s novel, portraying the endearing, though often inebriated actor-sleuth Charles Paris. When Charles lands a role in a new musical, his joy is short-lived as he uncovers his real purpose there. Charles is tasked by Maurice, the show’s financier and his agent, to investigate mysterious incidents plaguing the production, including a shooting and a suspicious fall. Immersed in a cast filled with tension, particularly because of prima donna Chris Watt, Charles must navigate through the egos and threats to solve the mystery. As accidents escalate, suspicion grows that perhaps Chris, despite his talents, might be sabotaging his own musical. Charles’ investigation turns urgent as he races to prevent potential disaster and deduces if the star is truly at the heart of this chaos.
