Mount Rainier is the second most likely volcano in the lower 48 U.S. states to erupt again. And, statistically speaking, it is the most dangerous of the group, as more than 150,000 people live on top of destructive lahar deposits this volcano emplaced in the last 10,000 years. Included in Rainier's potential danger zone are large swaths of Puyallup, Sumner, Orting, Enumclaw, Greenwater, and National. This video will discuss everything you need to know about this potentially dangerous volcano, including its famed Osceola lahar and where it covered.
Note: While this video's thumbnail image says that Mount Rainier last erupted in 1894, this assertion has not yet been proven. While in my opinion, I interpret the details of reports made involving Mount Rainier in 1894 as evidence that a small phreatic eruption occurred that year, no ash deposits from this reported eruption were ever found. If this eruption, and other reported 19th century eruptions did not occur, then Mount Rainier last erupted around the year 1500.
