Welcome to the first video in my new Home Economics series, where I’m breaking down the five principles that help a household spend less, waste less, and live more intentionally.

This first principle is Prevention, which is the idea that the most powerful way to save money isn’t coupons or cutting back, but preventing waste before it happens.

While I work in the kitchen preserving apples and tending to everyday homemaking tasks, we’ll talk about how prevention shows up in real life:

• preventing food waste
• maintaining what we already own
• using food at the right time
• building systems that reduce future expenses
• stewarding resources wisely at home

Home economics isn’t about perfection or deprivation, but about thoughtful management of what we’ve been given. And prevention is where it all begins.
