In this video I will show you how to apply grease to stem packing area on a floating ball valve. When to apply grease can be a tricky topic depending on who you ask. I have always found that it is best to only apply grease to the stem packing area only when there is a leak. Applying grease prematurely can sometimes lead to unexpected problems. For example the stem orings can become covered with the grease and begin to let medium pass through. Or the grease can become hard locking up stem and much more.


The best practice is to follow the manufacturers recommendations or if the valve is working properly do not apply grease. This video will show you how the grease travels through the stem and into the grease channel located on the outside of the stem.


I hope this video was helpful. Grease can be a tricky topic so I wanted to give you a basic overview on how to apply the grease. Trunnion ball valves use a different grease system for different components. This floating ball valve only has the option of greasing the stem packing area.
