The Rock has faced A LOT of backlash lately for his controversial actions and statements both on and off the sets of films like "Red One" and "Fast & Furious". His attempt to insert himself into the Cody Rhodes WWE storyline has also caused a large amount of his core fanbase to turn on him.

So, why drop 50 - 60lbs and take on an acting role outside of his typical "I'm a big badass" characters he is known for?

I think it's because he knows if he wants to stay relevant, especially as he continues to get older, he needs reinvent himself to regain public favor and his role as Mark Kerr in "The Smashing Machine" could be a good first step.

Also, I mean let's get serious. These guys can't stay huge forever even though they are aLl nAtUrAl...
