This video explains how to use the Tramex Moisture Encounter 5. (See the chapters at the end of the description).

The ME5 is a non-destructive moisture meter for detecting moisture in most building materials.

As a wood moisture meter, it provides actual moisture content % readings. For other building materials such as drywall, plaster, roofing, tile, and masonry the ME5 determines comparative moisture levels from zero to 100.

This meter also has Bluetooth that connects to the Tramex Meter App, which allows you to easily save data, geotag pictures, and create moisture maps for adding to your report.

The ME5 has a unique setting, the Shallow Depth setting, which reads up to three-eighths of an inch, whereas the other settings read up to an inch and a quarter into the material. The ME5 automatically allows comparing a shallow reading to a deeper reading in any material. This Shallow Depth setting is calibrated based on the wood scale, and its readings will give the actual percentage of moisture content.

When using the ME5 on any other material than wood, the proper scale to use is the bottom comparative scale, from zero to 100. On these materials, it's important to establish your dry standard. Find a known dry spot, take a reading that becomes your "zero", and you'll compare other readings to that number (not to the zero on the scale).

The Drywall-Roofing, Tile-Plaster, and Masonry settings have one dot, two dots, and three dots respectively, which defines the strength of the signal for a more dense material. The denser the material, the lesser the strength of the signal.

This video shows examples of how to use the ME5: linoleum over a plywood subfloor, tile over concrete, shallow readings compared to deep readings, cracked tile situations, hardwood floors, and drywall.
