Captain Commando (SNES) Playthrough

Описание к видео Captain Commando (SNES) Playthrough

A playthrough of Capcom's 1995 beat 'em up for the Super Nintendo, Captain Commando.

Played through as Captain Commando on the hard difficulty level.

If you want to skip the intro demos, the game begins at 3:37.

Captain Commando, Capcom's mascot throughout much of the NES era, finally got the chance to star in an arcade game of his own in 1991 (   • Captain Commando (Arcade) Playthrough...  ), and the game saw a release on three different home consoles in the 1990s: it appeared on the SNES and CPS Changer in 1995, and on the PlayStation in 1998.

Considering the differences in hardware and that the 48 megabit arcade game had to be slimmed down to fit into a 16 megabit cartridge, the Super Nintendo version is a thoroughly decent adaptation.

All of the original stages and playable characters made the leap intact, as did most of the enemies, weapons, and power-ups. The game moves at a slower pace, there are fewer enemies on-screen at once, the ride-on mechs are missing, and the violence has been toned down, but it feels quite similar to play.

There's less color, the character sprites are smaller and are missing several frames of animation, and the screen is heavily letterboxed, but the overall look of the game still closely resembles that of the arcade game. The music doesn't fare well, unfortunately. The tunes are recognizable, but the harsh, tinny samples grate hard on the ears. The sound quality is actually worse than what we heard in the SNES version of Street Fighter Alpha 2. It sounds awful.

(Just what they did to the last level theme at 27:34?! How does that even happen? I rearranged that song for NES hardware, and if it's not too forward of me to say, I think it sounds a lot better despite its being on much older hardware. Check it out!    • ♫Enemy Space Ship (Captain Commando) ...  )

But generally speaking, Captain Commando for the SNES is a fair facsimile of the arcade original and a fun alternative to Final Fight, especially with two players.
