Challenger 2 Tank - Tank Fest 2022 - Tank Display at Bovington Tank Museum, Dorset

The Challenger 2 tank is the British Army’s main battle tank and has been in operational service since 1998, successfully supporting the British Army operations in Bosnia, Kosovo and Iraq.,.It’s primary role is to destroy or neutralise armour, but it can also operate successfully in peace keeping activities. The Challenger 2 is powered by a Perkins CV12-6A V12 diesel engine and has a range of 340 miles and a maximum road speed of 37 mph. The Challenger 2 is manned by a crew of four. It’s main armament is a L30A1 120-millimetre rifled tank gun. It also has secondary weapons: a L94A1 EX-34 chain gun and a L37A2 machine gun. The sighting systems, turret and gun are fully stabilised enabling rapid target engagement when either the tank is stationary or on the move. The turret and hull are also protected with second generation Chobham armour.

TANKFEST is an event held by the Bovington tank museum over 3 days in June each year. Tankfest features live tank displays, including historic tanks, talks, demonstrations and living history. Visitors can also explore the museum including areas normally not open to the public.

The Bovington Tank Museum houses one of the largest collections of tanks and armoured vehicles in the world. There are over 300 tanks and armoured vehicles on display telling the story of the tank from its origins, through the First and Second World Wars up to the modern day. The Museum runs special events throughout the year including live Tank Action Displays in the Museum’s arena during school holidays and some dates in September. The display includes a number of tanks and informative narration. Facilities The museum offers excellent parking. The display halls are light, modern and spacious, offering free access for wheelchair users around the exhibits. The museum also has a very good restaurant and café area. Activities and living-history events are also offered for children at certain times of the year.
