DEAD MALL - Uptown Scottsbluff (Monument Mall) - Scottsbluff Nebraska | ERA_Productions

Hello everyone, welcome to Uptown Scottsbluff Mall in Scottsbluff Nebraska! Originally opening as the Monument Mall in 1986, this property would be the only mall in a 100 mile radius, and we have a successful start serving the western Nebraska region. Original anchors would consist of Walmart, JCPenney, and Herberger's. The interior would have enough space for up to 40 in-line tenants, and would even receive a movie theater in 1996. The start of the mall would be pretty successful, until 2002 when Walmart relocated to a supercenter a few miles away, and left their space at Monument Mall vacant for a decade. This would cause the mall to struggle, and things would not get any better when JCPenney closed in 2012. However, the Walmart space would eventually get filled in with a Dunham sports, hobby lobby, and a dollar tree. 2014 would see Rockstep Capital based out of Texas takeover for management. They would try to fill in a lot of the empty store, friends with local tenants, however, it wouldn’t be enough. 2018 would see Herberger's close as Bon Ton stores Inc. filed for bankruptcy and closed all locations. By 2020, the mall would be renamed to Uptown Scottsbluff, and they would try to focus on more community oriented things. Today, the mall does not stand with much left inside.
