Mastering wet-on-wet techniques with watercolor painting (Part 1 - Adjacent washes)

Описание к видео Mastering wet-on-wet techniques with watercolor painting (Part 1 - Adjacent washes)

Wet-on-wet techniques can seem daunting, especially for beginner watercolorists. In this 3 part video series, I will break down every single problem one can encounter when working with the wet paint, and demonstrate the fool-proof techniques to avoid mistakes, in order to achieve the desired effects - be it smooth transitions, soft edges or runny effects.

Part 1 of this course focuses on "adjacent washes", which is about smoothly connecting shapes of different colors. Although strictly speaking adjacent washes are not wet "on" wet, mastering them, however, is a precursor and a fundamental skillset to the real "wet-on-wet" technique. Because a successful wet-on-wet effect requires both the right paint consistency and timing. But often I see beginners not getting the right consistency for their first layer. No wonder why when they apply another coat of paint on top of it, it's not giving them the desired effect. That's why today's module is dedicated to mastering techniques for joining shapes and colors. If you are a more advanced watercolor painter, I hope you still find this video helpful, because judging paint consistency is a core skill we can all brush up every once in a while.

Part 2:    • Mastering wet-on-wet painting techniq...

The video is broken into the following chapters. Feel free to jump to the portion that interests you the most:
00:00 Course intro
02:00 Mistakes during the first wash
06:12 Mistakes during the second wash
09:06 Pro tips to avoid mistakes
14:10 Recap all mistakes and how to avoid them

Disclaimer: I have made every single mistakes demonstrated in this course and I continue to make them to this day. This video series is definitely not about making you feel bad about your mistakes, but rather, developing awareness of how the mistakes occur and why, so that in your practice, you can identify them in advance, prevent them from happening or lower the frequency of your mistakes. Overcoming mistakes while making friends with them is a rewarding and everlasting journey!
