My name is Raj, a solo Bengali traveler and the creator of Budget Backpacker. This time I’m starting an unforgettable train journey from Kolkata to Gujarat 🚆✨. My route takes me first to Ahmedabad and then to Veraval, leading to my ultimate dream destination — Gir National Park 🦁🌿, the only place in India where you can witness the majestic Asiatic lion in its natural habitat.

This journey is not just about travel — it’s about adventure, curiosity, and chasing experiences beyond comfort zones. Traveling across states by train is always magical. Watching landscapes change, meeting new people, experiencing different cultures, and feeling the rhythm of India from the railway window is something truly special.

Ahmedabad, the vibrant heart of Gujarat, welcomes travelers with its rich heritage, beautiful architecture, and incredible street food. From there, the journey continues towards Veraval, a coastal town that serves as the gateway to Gir. The excitement builds with every passing mile because Gir National Park is not just a wildlife destination — it’s a legendary land where lions roam freely.

Gir National Park holds immense importance in India’s wildlife history. It is the last remaining home of the rare Asiatic lion 🦁🇮🇳. Unlike African lions, these lions are unique, powerful, and deeply connected to India’s natural heritage. Spotting one in the wild is a once-in-a-lifetime experience filled with adrenaline and awe.
