The Longest Freeway in the City - First Person Drive Through Todos Santos (Cities: Skylines 1)

Описание к видео The Longest Freeway in the City - First Person Drive Through Todos Santos (Cities: Skylines 1)

In this video, you'll take a drive down the TS-2 which traverses the southern fringes of the city from east to west. You'll pass through the suburbs and industrial zone and then wind between towering, forested mogotes before reaching the agricultural outskirts and leaving the city.

Compression really did a number on this video unfortunately, so I apologize if it looks grainy.

-- ABOUT THE ROUTE --

This expressway, originally constructed in the 1970s, was the island's first controlled-access highway, connecting the east and west coasts to the capital, Todos Santos. At construction, it followed the path of least resistance in the relatively flat land far southeast of the city, but has since been enveloped by suburban expansion and now dictates the shape of the Santa Clara and San Pablo barrios. Southwest of the city, it makes every effort to avoid the treacherous hills, but is forced to take a lush, scenic route between them for a short while before entering Río de Plata.

-- ABOUT THE LANDMARKS --
Interchange of TS-2 and TS-4: This Y-interchange links the TS-2 (the northernmost intercity highway on the island) to the TS-4 (which provides access to the airport and downtown) via two ramps. It's so simple that locals haven't even bothered to name it--they'll just tell you to "turn around" before you leave the city heading east and expect you'll figure it out.

La Telaraña: This gargantuan stack interchange was built as part of the original project, connecting the urban TS-1 to the preexisting TS-2 which runs east to west through the southern fringes of the city. If the tall flyovers (so tall they could make a Texan urban planner blush) were removed, you could see the viaduct of the TS-1 tracing a straight path over the uneven terrain up to 90ft/27m below. Even detractors admit it's an impressive way to bridge the gap between Las Colinas and San Pablo.

Bay View Office Park: This cluster of office towers, along with the nearby Logistics Center, has anchored the recent revitalization of the southern end of Puerto Nuevo's industrial sector. Though it's largely unremarkable, its copious office space and relatively low rent draws lots of business.

-- ABOUT THE SERIES --
On the north shores of this tropical island sprawls the metropolis of Todos Santos. In this series, I attempt to build a Latin American city that roams from the Old World casco viejo to the car-centric urbanism of the New World, primarily drawing inspiration from San Juan, Puerto Rico. I hope you’ll join me on this high-detail exploration of all the things that make us love cities.
