This story is a twist on the fairy tale “The Emperor’s New Clothes”. It teaches us that we should be honest about our thoughts and feelings so we don’t end up like the ministers.

The boy emperor Ming Da has dishonest ministers that steal from the royal treasury. Ming Da’s tailors agree to help him trick the ministers. They show the ministers a
rice sack and pretend it is a magical new cloth that looks beautiful to honest people and
ugly to dishonest people. The ministers pretend that the cloth is beautiful so they appear
honest. The tailors make outfits for all the ministers for the New Year’s Day parade. The
ministers want more jewels and silk for their outfits and pay the tailors with gold and gems.
Ming Da uses these riches to feed the poor. On the day of the parade, the ministers step
out in their rice sack outfits and everyone laughs at them. They are replaced by honest
ministers.
