What Size Pillow Insert Do I Need? Don't worry, you are not the first person to ask this question. Matter of fact, this is our most common question we get at Pillowflex. Don't worry it is not that difficult to decide. If you are still not sure which size pillow insert to get, we will be happy to help you.

So you just ordered that perfect sham for your home and you know it is going to look great. Oh no, I only received a sham, I just assumed the pillow was included. Now I need to get a pillow. What are these things called, pillows? craft pillows? decorative pillow stuffers? pillow forms? pillow inserts? decorative sham pillows? Décor Pillows?

Well technically any of those answers will do, but the official name is pillow form insert, we simply call them pillow inserts.

Ok, I will just look and see what size sham I bought and order the same pillow, this is easy.

It's not that simple. You could get the same size but to get the best look for your new sham your insert must be larger than your sham.

Why is this? Well we contacted NASA and sent them lots samples to test and then had their best people working on the sizing question. After months months of debate and severe cost overruns the best answer they could give was, "Because that is the way it is". Ok, I agree with them, don't ask me why, just trust me.

For square inserts it is best practice for shams 17 x 17 or smaller to have an insert that is 1 inch larger than your sham. For example at 10x10 sham needs an 11x11" Inch insert.

For shams that are 18 x 18“ are larger we recommend inserts that are 2 inches larger than your sham. For example an 18 x 18“ sham requires a 20 x 20“ pillow form insert.

For rectangle inserts there are two different ways to select the correct size for your sham.

First if you are looking for full corners we recommend adding 2 inches to the length of your insert. For example if you have a 12 x 16“ sham we would recommend a 12 x 18“ insert.

If you are looking for a firmer sham in a rectangle we recommend ordering 1 inch larger all the way around. For example a 12 x 18" inch sham would use a 13 x 19“ inch pillow form insert.
