Meg Barnette, wife of NYC mayoral candidate and City Comptroller Brad Lander, spoke out Tuesday about her husband's arrest at Manhattan immigration court.

According to Barnette, she made the decision on Tuesday to join Lander on his third visit to observe immigration court hearings, stating that she has been "both moved and horrified by his stories here."

"I am extraordinarily proud of my husband for so many reasons, never moreso than today," Barnette said.

Lander was arrested by federal immigration officers as he attempted to accompany a person out of a courtroom. The person he was walking with was also arrested.

The Department of Homeland Security said in a statement that Lander was arrested for "assaulting law enforcement and impeding a federal officer."

In his campaign for mayor, Lander has been vocally against the Trump administration's immigration crackdown and its impact on New York families.
