ALBERT LEE WEEK - Song 4 of 6 - 'Skip Rope Song'.

12.43pm, live on BBC Radio 2 on Sunday, 28 March 2010.

Albert’s second song this week was ‘Skip Rope Song’ written by Jesse Winchester, a song that is obviously extremely dear to Albert’s heart because many was the time that I would turn up to sound checks on tour with Albert Lee and Hogan’s Heroes and find Albert sitting behind the piano playing it.🎹

For some reason, we never put it into the set on those tours but when we came to make the album ‘Like This’, not only did we decide to record Albert’s version but we decided to open the album with it. For a man recognised around the world for his immense guitar playing, it was a bold move that worked a treat.

For this live performance, we replaced the string trio that we had recorded in the studio, with our horn players... and we added the accordion!

Enjoy this extraordinarily beautiful song and Albert’s perfect rendition. ❤️
