Double bass player and composer William Barrett (1994) started playing bass at the age of fourteen. He attended the Junior Jazz College of the Conservatory of Amsterdam before pursuing his bachelor's and master's there as well. He studied with Frans van der Hoeven and Ernst Glerum. With his band, The Jazz Commotion, he won the first prize of the Prinses Christina Jazz Concours. He played in venues such as Concertgebouw, Bimhuis, Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, North Sea jazz club, and festivals such as Haarlem Jazz & More, Goois Jazz festival, Holland festival, and Grachtenfestival in Amsterdam. He recently recorded a new record with his band Vondelier, showcasing poetry and his compositions and to be released in summer 2021.

The William Barrett Band, previously known as Ikodo, is formed by four friends who all met at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. They play original compositions that could be labeled as modern jazz. Rooted in the jazz tradition, they have their own, unique sound with hip grooves, a lot of improvisation, and interaction.
