This is my Plumber’s Starter Tool Kit – the exact type of setup I’d recommend if you’re just starting your plumbing apprenticeship.

When I started out, I needed a small, practical kit that:
• Didn’t take up loads of space
• Didn’t remove key tools from the engineer I was working with
• Covered the essentials for day-to-day tasks

The tool bag I chose is a veto Grubber. This is a very hardware in small tool bag. It has multiple pockets on it Velcro in the front and a zip pocket in the back has a main section with a web zipped pocket and D rings on each side.

In the Velcro pocket or tools which you can normally carry on yourself such as your Work trousers knee consist of a tape measure a pencil a blade of some sort and of course an air vent key.

In the zip pocket behind is a set of box spanners, this is essential for fixing taps and this set is very cheap and affordable and fit fits in the pocket nicely, there’s many nicer tools to use when working on taps but this is what everybody starts out with.

In the webbed zip pocket, we have a Alan key set which is from Wera it is part of a bigger kit but I don’t use many of the larger sizes and I wanted it super small so I just cut that end off and carry sizes from 1.5 to 5. Next is a radiator key which allows you to tighten Lock Shield radiator valves. It also has a vent key on the side and the ability to turn the valves on and off from the other.

Inside the main section we have a 15mm pipe slice I like to use the ones from Monument tools or Nerrad as I find these cost-effective and you won’t be doing much work on 22 mm when you’re starting. I don’t like to carry lots of different types of screwdrivers, which is the reason why a Bahco ratchet screwdriver is in this kit. It has all your bits in the handle and I mainly have this one set up with a PZ2. Accompanying the screwdriver I also have a flathead chisel driver from Wera. this is quick access to turn off isolation valves but also you can hit it with a hammer as it’s metal all the way through from the end into the handle so I use this for hitting bricks and also using it for things such as floorboards.
The hammer I’ve chosen is a small version from Thor. I don’t think you’ll be doing much reckon Work as an apprentice so a small hammer will be perfect especially for tapping in wall plugs into walls. It has a copper end and also a hide on the other side, which can stop damaging things. 

Some of the most important tools in your kit are gonna be your grips and spanners, which is the reason why I don’t think you should Scrap on budget. Grips from Knipex and adjustable spanners from bahco are an industry standard and will help you perform your tasks with ease as they are very economic. A hacksaw is a great addition as you will be cutting little things. I would rather you learn the way that we did especially when removing old parts with olives and I much prefer a hacksaw with the handle on the side rather than over the top as it makes it much more economic to use.

Last of all is a level from stabila I’ve chosen the 200 mm version which I find is perfect to fit inside this kit. You won’t be needing a long one just something for you to be able to make sure some pipework is straight. I hope you like this lineup of tools I think it is a perfect starter kit.
