The Meaning of Mammon in the Bible

Описание к видео The Meaning of Mammon in the Bible

What does mammon mean in the Bible?

Jesus said:

"No servant can serve two masters. He will either hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon" (Mt 6:24; Lk 16:13).

Mammon is a word meaning "money" or "material wealth." It is sometimes explained as a transliteration of the Aramaic or Hebrew word meaning "that in which one trusts."

The point Jesus makes is that we must be careful not to place our trust in money or material wealth over God. If we are not careful, we will become a slave to mammon. We can let our endless desire to accumulate enough money consume us with worry and doubt.

Or we can turn to God and place our trust in him instead. When we place are trust in God, we are set free. When we put our trust in money, we are enslaved by worry because material wealth can so easily be lost or taken away.

Put your trust in God and you will be set free. Put your trust in money and material goods, and you will become a slave to them.
