Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) Technology in Engines

Описание к видео Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) Technology in Engines

This video shows how Transense SAW sensors can be used in engines to measure torque.

These sensors are totally passive on the shaft meaning there is no need for a battery or complex electronics on the shaft. The sensor is driven by a dedicated and proprietary ASIC developed by Transense which enables SAW technology to be deployed in a cost-effective manner.

The advantages of using Transense's SAW torque sensors are:
• The ability to measure micro-strain maintaining a stiff and stable mechanical system
• Highly accurate with +/-1% achievable in a typical application
• An immunity from background interference
• Completely wireless installation with small, light, and passive components only on the shaft
• High-speed torque signal
• Compact dimensions that can be easily packaged into a complex system
• Temperature readings also created
• The RF coupler can incorporate an inductive speed and position resolver
• Robust and reliable

The disadvantages of this technology are:
• Not available as an off-the-shelf sensor must be designed into a system
• Requires proprietary Transense SAW devices and ASIC
