Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) Torque Sensing Technology

Описание к видео Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) Torque Sensing Technology

Transense SAW sensing technology can help to improve efficiency, reliability, and safety in electric propulsion systems for vehicles and aircraft.

This video explains the principles of using surface acoustic wave sensor technology to measure torque in an electric motor system and what the benefits of that can be. Electric propulsion is a rapidly growing area due to the drive to improve air quality and reduce CO2 emissions. In an electric drive system torque is typically calculated based on current, voltage, and speed measurements. The current state of the art means that true closed-loop control of electric motors is not possible. Implementing a robust and reliable Transense SAW sensor system allows for real-time torque measurement. This allows motor control to be improved and when used in conjunction with conventional current sensor systems provides a truly redundant, dissimilar safety check on the electric propulsion systems.

The sensors are totally passive on the shaft meaning there is no need for a battery or complex electronics on the shaft. The sensor is driven by a dedicated and proprietary ASIC developed by Transense which enables SAW technology to be deployed in a cost-effective manner.
