Forgotten 1964 Sikkim Border Crisis showed India was getting spine back after defeat in China war

Less than two years after the war of 1962, China began pushing troops into Sikkim — then an independent country, protected by India — and held out threats of conflict. Then, just-defeated India did something no one expected: It held its ground. This would lead to a spiral of region-shaping consequences, ending with Sikkim being merged with India a decade later.
