The 2024 Honda Civic lineup introduces several key updates that enhance performance, efficiency, and overall driving experience. The available turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine has been updated to deliver more standard power and torque, providing quicker response and improved fuel efficiency, all while operating more quietly than before. Meanwhile, the naturally aspirated 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine has been refined to achieve better fuel economy and lower emissions, making it an excellent option for eco-conscious drivers.

Drivers can choose between a 6-speed manual transmission or two continuously variable automatic transmissions (CVTs), both of which have been updated for the 2025 model. The 6-speed manual transmission is available with either engine, offering enthusiasts a more engaged driving experience. The CVTs, on the other hand, have been enhanced for improved responsiveness and better efficiency. The Step Shift CVT programming now simulates gear changes during full-throttle acceleration, creating a more dynamic driving feel. Additionally, the new user-selectable SPORT mode is available on the Sport and Sport Touring grades equipped with the CVT, allowing drivers to enjoy a more spirited performance.

For the first time, the Civic Hatchback offers the naturally aspirated 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, which has been optimized to reduce emissions. The turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine continues to deliver the same output as the previous generation's Sport and Sport Touring models, with 180 horsepower (SAE net at 6,000 rpm) and 177 lb.-ft. of torque (SAE net at 1,700 to 4,500 rpm). Notably, this power is now achieved on more economical 87-octane fuel, providing both performance and efficiency.

The CVT paired with each engine has been retuned to offer a more natural and “synchronized” response, further enhancing fuel economy in trims equipped with the 1.5L turbo engine, such as the EX-L and Sport Touring. Meanwhile, the 6-speed manual transmission, available on the Civic Hatchback Sport and Sport Touring grades, has been reengineered with shorter throws for a more immediate and precise response, contributing to an even more solid and engaging driving experience.

Looking ahead to 2025, Honda is introducing new Civic hybrid-electric powered trims that are set to impress with their anticipated combined 200 horsepower and a robust 232 lb.-ft. of torque. These new trims are the most powerful non-Type R Civics ever produced, offering quick and effortless acceleration while maintaining outstanding EPA fuel economy ratings. The driving experience is further elevated by Linear Shift Control, which mimics the vehicle speed-linked rev feel typically associated with a conventional drivetrain shifting gears under acceleration. This results in a driving experience that is even quicker than the outgoing 1.5L turbo-powered Civic.

Honda’s advanced two-motor hybrid system is designed to maximize efficiency without compromising on dynamic performance or passenger and cargo space. Optimized specifically for the Civic, this refined hybrid-electric power unit features two large and powerful electric motors, delivering a sporty and responsive driving experience that Civic fans have come to expect.

The exterior styling of the 2025 Honda Civic has also received a significant update, with a more aggressive front fascia and grille. New darker taillights give the Civic sedan a sharper, more defined look. The new hybrid-powered trims, which are more powerful than ever, also feature a distinct body-colored headlamp garnish and a front lower spoiler, adding to their sporty appearance. All Sport trims continue to sport dark trim and black 18-inch wheels, while the top-of-the-line Sport Touring Hybrid boasts a new machine-finished wheel design exclusive to this model.

To further enhance the visual appeal of the 2025 Civic, Honda has introduced four bold new colors: Solar Silver Metallic, Urban Gray Pearl, Blue Lagoon Pearl (exclusive to the Civic sedan), and Sand Dune Pearl (exclusive to the Civic Hatchback). These new color options allow buyers to personalize their Civic to match their style.

Honda’s commitment to innovation extends to its Power Unit Operations facilities in Ohio, where associates at the Anna Engine Plant and Ohio Transmission Plant build the two-motor hybrid-electric power unit and the 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine used in the Accord, CR-V, and Civic hybrids. This dedication to quality and performance ensures that the 2025 Civic will continue to be a leader in its class, offering a perfect blend of power, efficiency, and cutting-edge technology.
