Guatemala’s Red Bus, Transurbano, and Transmetro at Plaza El Amate (with one Antigua Video)

Guatemala City has three bus systems, with Transurbano and Transmetro BRT being the most modern systems. The red bus system (Camionetas rojo) is the dominant system but is the worst in terms of service and safety. Its buses are not very well-maintained and are frequent sites of assault, robbery, and murder, hence not a lot of footage of these red buses floating around on YouTube. Taking this video was very risky so please don’t try to take videos in public especially on your own. This video was taken with the intention of showing what the bus scene is like in Guatemala City.

The end clip of a bus at Antigua was taken in a safer environment, because of Antigua’s reputation as a tourist town. But please be aware it’s still less safe than taking video in New York City.

Buses seen in this video:
Both the Transurbano buses seen in the video are the Caio Apache VIP.
The red bus models seen come from Bluebird and Guatemala’s own Rosmo.
The green Transmetro articulated is a Marcopolo Viale BRT and the other green bus is a Caio Vitoria Alimentador (Feeder Bus).
