Lancaster Walk: City Centre【4K】

Описание к видео Lancaster Walk: City Centre【4K】

In the northwestern county of Lancashire is the city of Lancaster.

The name derives from the River Lune which runs through the city, and 'caster' based on 'castrum' meaning Roman fort, which was formed here in the 1st century AD. The city is formed around a medieval hilltop castle that was built at the same strategic point as where the Roman garrison initially stood.

The city represented one of two rival factions of the Royal Family in the medieval era: The House of Lancaster. Their conflict with The House of York led to the War of the Roses, taking place between 1455 and 1487, ultimately ending in the two houses unifying and forming the House of Tudor.

The walk starts outside Lancaster Cathedral, a Victorian Gothic Revival cathedral built between 1857 and 1901. From here we head from east to west through the city centre, finishing around the hill on which Lancaster Castle stands.
