For those who crave the warmth and crisp of an apple pie but don't want to go through the trouble of pie dough, this is the perfect recipe for you. This recipe has enough cinnamon to warm you but not overwhelm, while cradling you with the depth of the dark sugar. Then as you take a bite, the playful streusel topping mixed with the warm apple makes this dessert a textural adventure! Adding vanilla ice cream is the cherry on top of this apple delight.

What's more is you only need 8 ingredients for this dessert! Also, this recipe takes 45 min, start to finish. Trust me, it is so worth giving a try!

Dish dimensions:
Larger dish (red): 15.5cm Ø 5cm in height
Small ramekin (white): 10cm Ø 5cm in height

Serves about 3-5 people, depending on how much you can eat ;)

Brown Sugar Crumble
5.5 Tbsp butter… バター 80g
3/4 cup cake flour… 薄力粉 100g
4 Tbsp brown sugar… 黒糖 大さじ4
A pinch of salt… 塩ひとつまみ

Apple Filling
2 apples, about 23oz…りんご 2個(約650g)
Zest from 1 lemon…レモン皮（1個分)
Juice from 1/2 lemon…レモン果汁　半個分
3 Tbsp butter… バター 42g
2.5 Tbsp brown sugar… 黒糖 30g
1.5 tsp cinnamon… シナモンパウダー 4g
1 tsp cornstarch + 2 tsp water… コーンスターチ 小さじ1＋水小さじ2

Bake at 180°C for 30 min
*EDIT: If you prefer an even more crispy texture, you can bake the crumble separately at 180°C for 22-25min then top the apples with it. If doing this, cook the apples in your frying pan until very tender (but not mushy!)

POINTS:

1. Keep the butter cold! If it gets too warm while crumbling in your hands, stick it in the fridge for about 20 minutes, then get back to crumbling. If the butter melts a little, don't worry too much. That is the beauty of this dish. Just chill the dough and break it up with the rounded part of your bench knife or your hands. Refrigerate until you need to use it!

2. Do not skip the cornstarch! It soaks up the wet juice from the apple and makes it thicker, which lets the streusel on the top remain crunchy for longer.
