Three men with 3 different allegiances are set to collide in this bout, Matt Hardy representing TNA, TAJIRI representing the Desperado faction and Seiya Sanada representing WRESTLE-1. Both Impact Wrestling & Desperado have been rivals of WRESTLE-1 having many competitive contests throughout the year.

More specifically regarding the individuals in the match, during a press conference held the previous day Hardy & TAJIRI aligned themselves in the idea that a singles match between the two veterans who spent many years in WWE at the same time would be preferred and that Sanada was just a "green boy" inserted into this battle much to their disapproval. Despite this Sanada said he respected both men for their time in the world's largest wrestling promotion and that facing such well-traveled opponents would only display and enhance his own abilities to shine brightest on the night.
