The National Student Financial Aid Scheme will open funding applications for the 2025 academic year on Friday. Higher Education and Training minister Dr Nobuhle Nkabane officially announced that matric pupils can also start applying for NSFAS loans or bursaries.

She says in the last few years, the student population has grown and the demand for financial assistance has also increased. Nkabane says the NSFAS application system has gone through several changes and enhancements to ensure a seamless application experience for prospective applicants.
