1. as soon as / immediately after doing
Stem＋次第
Noun＋次第
This sentence pattern expresses that as soon as one action or event is realized, the next action or event will be carried out.

"〜したら、すぐに "

状況が分かり次第、連絡してください。
状況が分かったらすぐに、連絡してください。
Please contact me as soon as you know the situation.


落とし物が見つかり次第、お知らせします。
落とし物が見つかったらすぐに、お知らせします。
We'll let you know as soon as we find your lost item.
When する/しますis used, we often omit しofし次第.


ご入金を確認次第、商品を送ります。
ご入金を確認したらすぐに、商品を送ります。
I will send the item as soon as the payment is confirmed.


空港に到着次第、御社に伺います。
空港に到着したらすぐに、御社に伺います。
I will visit your company as soon as I arrive at the airport.


2. depends on + (noun) / It’s up to

verb か + verb negative formかは+ Noun + 次第
verb か + どうかは+ Noun + 次第
Noun + 次第

This sentence pattern expresses that (A) is what will govern (B).
Noun determines the sequence of (B). Since living things can make choices, (B) will depend on (A).


このプロジェクトが成功し得るかどうかはあなた次第だ。
Whether or not this project can succeed depends on you.


この会社では本人の頑張り次第で、年収が上がる。
At this company, your annual income will increase depending on your hard work.


Noun determines the sequence of (B). Since inanimate/abstract things cannot make choices, (A) will determine (B)’s course of action. (B) will usually involve some kind of decision.


あのアイドルのコンサートのチケットが取れるか取れないかは運次第だ。
Whether or not you can get a ticket for that idol's concert depends on your luck.


運動会は天気次第で中止になることもあります。
The sports day may be cancelled depending on the weather.


3. 次第に　gradually, little by little


時間が経つにつれて、空が次第に暗くなってきた。
As time passed, the sky gradually became darker.


卒業をきっかけに、高校時代の友達とは次第に疎遠になっていった。
After graduating, I gradually lost touch with my high school friends.
