Affinity Gallery is pleased to present 'Wonderland', an exhibition of paintings and mixed media works by Delphine Dénéréaz, Ekene Stanley, Kay Gasei, Terence Maluleke and Uzo Njoku. The works in this exhibition place emphasis on what it means to traverse the world with an open-minded curiosity that allows for the constant questioning of the status-quo. Questions about identity, belonging, community, culture and our collective histories, are some of the conversations highlighted in this showcase; while also creating a wonderland of its own, a safe space that is accessible to all and fosters a spirit of wonder.

Born in Lagos, Nigeria and raised in the USA, Uzo Njoku is a breakout painter and determined business woman set on bridging the gap between fine art and the commercial world of design. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia in Studio Art in 2019. Surprisingly, Njoku originally registered to study statistics at university, yet switched majors as her artistic interests and talents became more apparent. One of Njoku’s art heroes, Njideka Akunyili Crosby, followed a similar path. This encouraged her to transfer courses, and she has since keenly followed Akunyili Crosby’s successful career.

"My works take many forms, yet this exhibition focuses on and highlights my painterly skill and keen eye for design. My works rejoice in unions and are a fusion of fine art and design while also celebrating the blend of my Nigerian- American cultural upbringing" - Uzo Njoku

Date: 02 November- 16 December 2023
