Sciatica pain relief exercises for yourself at home. Here is my routine that I used to help relieve my sciatica pain. This was my first ever personal episode of sciatic pain, generally I am the physio and not the patient! in this video I go through the exercises I used from start to finish! So, let us get on the floor and go through it together!

Sciatica is essentially pain that travels from the back/upper glute area and goes PAST the 'gluteal fold' which is the bottom of our 'butt cheek' and can extend down the back of the leg into the calf and foot! Often there is sensation changes (numbness) and pins and needles (prickling) sensations in the leg as well!

My episode came from doing handstands BUT my pain was a fairly 'classic' presentation of sciatica. I had pain at night, it was worse in the morning that then improved during the day but worsened at night. The pain was mostly in the top of my left glute and I had numbness and pins and needles and pain on the outside of my calf and foot! This video was recorded when my pain was improving but still not 100%! it starts off with gentle motions and gets more difficult!

The goal of Sciatica pain relief exercises is for progressive exposure to more challenging movements. if we do too much early on it will aggravate the nerves! Once the nerve settles we just progress slowly and at a steady rate without making big exercise jumps! especially when we start to feel like we have less pain we often make mistakes of rushing back into our favorite activity i.e. gym, running, swimming, and flare ourselves up and lose hope! make sure that we are progressive.
