20 Tension Lock Uncoupling at Mallaig

I have been asked about the uncouplers at Mallaig so this week I thought I'd show how they are made and at the end demonstrate how efficient they are.

Saffron Model Railways comprises of 2 layouts.

The first is an indoor oo gauge model based on the West Highland Line in Scotland. The station represents, as near as I could make it, Mallaig Station at the northern end of the line. I am not fanatical about keeping to era but mostly run locomotives and rolling stock that has actually visited Mallaig at any period of time. That does enable a wide variety of diesel locomotives to be used, including those classed as "West Highland" locomotives, the 27's and 37's. As far as steam goes, I can also run classes K1 and Black 5's which still run twice a day during the summer months on the "Jacobite" as part of the normal timetable.

The second layout was started in 2019. As I had run out of room inside the modelling moved outside into the garden. It is a double track all the way around and is about 1 scale mile long. The station area has 3 platforms enabling 5 runs to be on the running area at any time.
