Swami Ramanuja [1017-1137] popularly known as 'Sri Bhashyakarar', 'Udayavar', 'Ethirajar', considered to be the Avathar (incarnation) of Aadhiseshan, was one of the foremost/chief proponent of Vishishtadwaita philosophy, thereby fulfilling the wishes of his Acharya Sri Alavandhar.
Sri Ramanuja is the central pendant in the garland of our Guru-parampara (Acharya lineage).

Once, on a Panguni Uthiram day, Sri Ramanuja visited Ranganatha Swami temple at Sri Rangam. Immediately, inspired by the festivities and the deity, Swami Ramanuja instantly composed Gadhya-thrayam (Sri Ranga Gadhyam, Sharanagathi Gadyam, Vaikunta Gadhyam).

Sharanagathi Gadyam, is a pure expression of Bhakthi and describes Sharanagathi as the act of total surrender before Lord Sriman-Narayana to attain Moksham.

In the musical form Sharanagathi Gadyam is sung in the following ragams:
1) Kalyani
2) Revathi
3) Kaapi
4) Shanmukha priya
5) Bhagyasri
6) Thilang
