Strasburg Rail Road 475 & 89: Christmastime Steam to Paradise (4K)

Описание к видео Strasburg Rail Road 475 & 89: Christmastime Steam to Paradise (4K)

After a few years of operating a revised schedule, the Strasburg Rail Road has returned to operating their seasonal Christmas trains every hour and half hour. With a jam-packed schedule with many passengers awaiting a festive ride through the Amish countryside, ex. Norfolk & Western 4-8-0 #475 and ex. Canadian National 2-6-0 #89 were fired up for the day's excursions. Handling the longer hourly train would be 475, sporting a N&W 8" single note whistle. On the shorter half-hour trains would be 89 still adorning a Pennsylvania Railroad 3 chime along with a wooden caboose on the back. In the warm winter sun both locomotives would put on an excellent display of steam climbing the slight grades and trundling through the rolling hills of Lancaster County. Along with the daytime operations, we follow both locomotives into the night as these workhorse continue to traverse the "Road to Paradise" and darkness settles across the farmland. Please sit back and enjoy this festive steam film, "Christmastime Steam to Paradise", by Keystone Rail Productions!

History of N&W 475:
Norfolk & Western 475 is a 4-8-0 "M" class locomotive built in 1906 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philadelphia, PA. She would be delegated to haul heavy freight and coal trains. Later in her career, she would be replaced by larger locomotives and work on various branches along the N&W's trackage. After completing a faithful 50 years of service, she was retired in 1956. After being saved from the scrappers torch in 1980, the locomotive exchanged hands with many owners, and was finally purchased by the Strasburg Rail Road Company in 1991 and was restored to operating service in 1993. In 2018, she was set to undergo a mandatory 1,472 day inspection, and was returned to service in late 2019 with a centered headlight. She continues to serve the Strasburg Rail Road in reliable service today.

History of CN 89:
Canadian National 89 is a 2-6-0 mogul that was built in 1910 by the Canadian Locomotive Company for the Grand Truck Railway as No. 1009, and was designated as a E-10-a. In 1919 she was then renumbered to 911. In 1951, after the Grand Trunk Railway merged into the Canadian National Railway, the locomotive was once again renumbered to 89. She was one of the many steam workhorses that could be found operating for the CN in service. In 1965, she was sold to the Green Mountain Railroad. Then in 1972, 89 was sold to the Strasburg Rail Road, where she resides today in her Canadian appearance pulling passenger and freight services reliably.
