The discount supermarket chain Aldi is a true German export success. The companies Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd operate in dozens of countries, with stores even in the United States, Australia, and China. Yet the success story came to an end in a neighboring country of all places: after 45 lackluster years, Aldi finally withdrew from the Danish market in 2022. What happened? And why did the Danes never warm to the German discount retailer?
