A half-day conference entitled "Intersecting Spheres: Exploring the Relationships between Ethics, Law and Medicine" took place on Friday the 4th of March 2016 in University College Cork. The goal of the conference was to facilitate dialogue around different professional approaches to ethical and legal issues which affect decisions about healthcare in Ireland.

The keynote address at the conference was “Litigating Ethics and Applying Ethics to Law: The Relationship between Medical Law and Ethics” and was delivered by Professor José Miola of the Law School at University of Leicester. This was followed by four papers with a cross-disciplinary focus delivered by Professor Brendan Kelly, Professor of Psychiatry, Trinity College Dublin; Dr Barry Lyons, School of Medicine, Trinity College Dublin and Crumlin Children’s Hospital; Dr Louise Campbell, School of Medicine, National University of Ireland Galway; and Dr Ruth Fletcher, School of Law, Queen Mary University, London.

The conference was followed by the launch of an edited collection: Donnelly and Murray (eds) Ethical and Legal Debates in Irish Healthcare: Confronting Complexities (Manchester University Press, 2016).
