The Scorpion history extends back to the 1930s at a little bar in Honolulu called The Hut. Apparently an unnamed bartender poured rum, brandy, citrus, and orgeat over ice before garnishing with orange and named it the Scorpion. It was 10 years later that Trader Vic tweaked the recipe, scaled it into a large-format cocktail and listed it on his menu as the Scorpion Bowl; becoming widely renowned as it's creator. He published three or more different recipes so you may come across recipes with brandy, cognac and/or gin.
