And now loyal viewers, here we have a video that I have been wanting to do now for a very long time, and that is to capture this one specific section on what may be one of my favourite Underground trains, the 1996 stock as used on the Jubilee Line.

One of the newest of the Tube lines, the Jubilee Line was named for the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977, though ironically opened two years later in 1979, the line took over what was part of the Bakerloo line between Baker Street & Stanmore, then extending south from Baker Street to Charing Cross via Bond Street & Green Park. 1999 saw the opening of the Jubilee Line Extension (JLE) from Green Park to Stratford, which provided new links in South London, Canary Wharf, and the newly built Millennium Dome (now O2) arena in North Greenwich. The extension necessitated the abandonment of the platforms at Charing Cross, which still remain, if eerily empty.

Our tantalizing Tube traction this time around is the ever distinctive-sounding 1996 Tube Stock, which were built between 1996 & 1998 by GEC-Alsthom-Metro-Cammell for two reasons, firstly to replace the unpopular 1983 stock when an refurbishment program proved to expensive to undertake, and secondly to be delivered to enter service for when the JLE would open. The 1996 stock were built originally as 6-car units, but extended to 7 cars in 2005, with the new built JLE stations being futureproofed for 7 car trains. Whilst externally identical to the Northern Line's 1995 stock, the motor's are completely different, with the distinct whine when arriving and departing being why the 1996 stock are one of my favourite Underground trains.

Our jubilant journey is a westerly one, with a Stanmore-bound train along the JLE as we depart Canning Town, entering the tunnel to Waterloo, calling along the way at North Greenwich, Canary Wharf, Canada Water, Bermondsey, London Bridge & Southwark. Wish fulfilled, so please enjoy!
