Shikando introduction

Описание к видео Shikando introduction

In this very brief, impromptu, and clumsy video I introduce my small humble temple and practice space.
My name is Seishin and I am a Buddhist priest in the Tendai school of Japanese Buddhism. My temple was given the name Shikando 止観堂 by my teacher, Shoshin Ichishima. Shikan 止観 is the main meditation practice of Tendai Buddhism. 'Shi' 止 is the Japanese pronunciation of the Chinese 'zhǐ', which is the Chinese translation of the Sanskrit Śamatha. Śamatha meditation is used to calm the mind. 'Kan' 観 is the Japanese pronunciation of the Chinese 'guān', which is a translation of the Sanskrit Vipaśyanā. Vipaśyanā meditation is used to gain insight in to the true nature of reality. When practiced together, they enable the practitioner to become enlightened.
